Wireless wide area network (WWAN)

Mobitex’s RAM mobile data provided 8 kbps. Motorola’s ARDIS provided 19.2 kbps. IBM used this technology from 1983 for maintaining the regular contact with their employees across the world. In 1990 ARDIS opened for public. Ricochet service developed by Metricom with 14.4 kbps opened in 1994. But it experienced severe traffic congestion.
