CTR Wilson initiated study of cosmic rays. Cosmic rays are the radiations coming to earth from interstellar space. Compton, Clay and Millikan proposed lattitude effect of cosmic rays. Cosmic rays also follows East-West effect ( Azimuth effect), longitude effect, North-South effect and altitude effect.
Primary and secondary cosmic rays
Primary cosmic rays initially incident upon the outer noundaries of the earth's atmosphere. this consists of positively charged nuclei with atomic mass upto 40. Energy range is 1 MeV-1000000000000 MeV. Secondary cosmic rays are produced when primary cosmic rays interact with atmospheric gases. Below an altitude of 20km, all cosmic radiation is secondary.
